Speaking Life over Yourself

"The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit." – Proverbs 18:21

Reflection:

The words we speak—both to ourselves and to others—carry incredible power. Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that our tongue can bring life or destruction. Too often, we allow negative self-talk to take root, believing lies about ourselves that contradict what God says. We may say things like, "I’m not good enough," "I’ll never succeed," or "I’m unworthy of love." But God calls us to speak words of faith, encouragement, and truth over our lives.

When we align our words with God’s promises, we begin to see ourselves the way He sees us. Speaking life means declaring His truth even when our emotions or circumstances tell us otherwise. It means choosing to build ourselves and others up rather than tear down. Today, make the choice to speak words of life, knowing that what you say shapes the way you live and think.

Lesson:

Words are powerful, and what we speak can influence our thoughts, emotions, and faith. When we replace negative self-talk with biblical truths, we walk in greater confidence and peace. Challenge yourself to be mindful of your words today—both the ones you say to yourself and those you say to others. Speak life, speak hope, and declare God’s promises.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, help me to be mindful of the words I speak. Let my tongue be used to glorify You and to build up those around me, including myself. When I am tempted to speak negatively, remind me of Your truth. Let my words be filled with faith, hope, and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
